Delay Between NYC Subway Metro Cards Swipes At Same Subway Station

After swiping your Metro Card at a subway station, it takes 18 minutes for your card to become available again at the same subway station.

So, if you swipe in and realize you forgot something at work, you’ve got 18 minutes until your card is available at that same station. If you try too soon, you’ll get a “Just Used” notice on the turnstile.
